Good journalism informs without misleading, gives context to important issues and accepts responsibility for its work. These eight principles are our promise to the people of Toba Tek Singh.

ACCURACY
We check facts before we publish. We name our sources where we can, keep fact separate from opinion, and do not publish rumours, edited images or unverified claims.

FAIRNESS
We give people and institutions a fair chance to respond. We report without prejudice and do not take sides because of religion, sect, language, gender, politics or class.

ACCOUNTABILITY
We take responsibility for our work. When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly, clearly and openly.

INDEPENDENCE
Our reporting is not for sale. Gifts, favours, advertising or pressure from anyone must never decide what we publish or how we publish it.

We protect the privacy and dignity of people in distress. We take special care with children, victims of violence or abuse, and grieving families.

PROTECTING SOURCES
We protect the identity of sources who ask for it and could be harmed, except where the law requires otherwise.

We focus on stories that matter to our community and give voice to local problems, aiming to inform and never to inflame.

RESPONSIBLE REPORTING
We avoid content that spreads hatred, fear or violence. We do not publish graphic images without a clear reason, and we think about the consequences of every story.
COMMUNITY REPORTS
HOW WE HANDLE PUBLIC SUBMISSIONS.
Anyone can send us news or a local problem. Nothing is published until it has been checked.
